Truth of the “Satanic Temple”

I don’t usually like to even touch issues like this, but I just had to say that the crux of the issue is being overshadowed by hatred and ignorance. (Pun intended)

After hearing what the spokesperson for Satanic Temple had to say about the monument in Oklahoma, and the “Black Mass” in Boston, it sounds like it all boils down to a vengeful attempt to show Americans what religious freedom is supposed to be. They are  just people who want to highlight the issue of separating church and state in a scandalous and shocking way. They deny being real worshipers of the devil; I cannot make assumptions about them past that and what they are really worshiping is beside the point. They have purposely opened this pandora’s box to incite attention to their issue and it is the ignorance and misunderstanding of the people which turns this political issue into a crazy scandal. I gather that what most people are scared about is that they have no way to control against this breaking out in their own respective communities.

However, as a Christian, to other Christians I say, you should not be surprised when these things happen, and “Do Not Be Afraid!”. I am of course scandalized too – I admit it. But I am not afraid of it. I’m righteously angry, but I am unmoved. Lots of things make me righteously angry like Jesus overturning tables in the temple. But if we belong to Jesus, we know our place. It is to love God and one another. That includes these people, the Westborough Baptist Church, and Donald Sterling too!

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,[a] putting them in chains of darkness[b] to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot,a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh[c] and despise authority.

Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from[d] the Lord. – 2 peter 2:4-11

PS. Clearly I’m not a confrontational type since I’m blogging my opinion! :p There are plenty of Christians with the gifts of Exhortation and Wisdom who can successfully capture this issue. And to those, I say: AMEN! 🙂
